Downloading Music From Your Computer To Your IPod

Putting music on your iPod may seem like a daunting task at first however it?s fairly simple after you?ve done it. Many people get confused because they try to put the MP3s directly on their iPod from their PC. However you are unable to do this. You have to use the iTunes software to be able to properly load your media to your iPod. iTunes allows for an easy way to load all types of media to your iPod with a simple click.

The first step to getting your MP3s on your iPod is to get the iTunes software. This is a very easy but important step. You should have received a CD with your iPod that contains the iTunes software. If you do not have this CD or cannot locate it you can go to the Apple website and download it. It?s important to download the proper software for your operating system. The download and installation will only take a few minutes and you?ll be ready to move on to the next step.

Next you will have to open iTunes and add your library to the software. You will need to use the software feature to scan the computer and add all of your MP3s to it. This will only take a couple minutes and it will allow you to easily transfer new songs to your iPod later on. If you?re concerned about your music being deleted then you can use the software to back it up on a CD. Alternatively if you have an external hard drive you can back up all of your MP3s to there. This will ensure that you don?t lose your collection of music.

The next step involves you connecting the iPod to the computer. You need to take the large end of the cord and plug it into your iPod and then take the smaller end, which is the USB end, and plug it into a USB port on your computer. You should get a message telling you not to disconnect the iPod. This is because if you try to disconnect it while it?s transferring you will mess up the transfer and may lose information on your iPod as well. To detect your iPod and set the settings you need to click the device tab on the left.

Once this is all set up you can start buying songs and importing music from your CDs. Any of the songs you have purchased from iTunes will come up in your music library right away. When you want to put on a CD, insert the disk and go under the Devices tab again. When you select the ?Import CD? button in the lower right the CD should begin to copy the songs into your music library. When you want to add the files from your library to your iPod just click on the song and drag it to the iPod picture. To upload all of the songs just choose to synch your iPod instead. Synchronizing makes the information on your iPod and in your library exactly the same.
