The task taken up by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has a lot to do the music industry spread across the US. The foremost aims of this association are managing good quality music and save from harm the copy right restricted music. RIAA categorically says that any kind of piracy will not be tolerated. It had been reported that many people were making use of copyright protected music for business. RIAA has no objections against copying a CD for personal purpose. One is allowed to burn a copy of one?s legally purchased CD. The disapproval is for burning copies illegally for sale. RIAA will institute legal proceedings against people selling illegal copies.

RIAA formulated a law in the year 2003 that no action will be taken against people who had in the past downloaded music illegally provided they undertake to not to do so in future. This was hailed by many as a positive approach but the law was deflated in a year?s time.

In general people have undecided feelings for RIAA. There are many who are unhappy about it, yet there are others who support its earnest efforts. Though there is a lack of uniform opinion about RIAA, it can be said with certainty that it has made impressive progress in the recent past.

Though RIAA defends itself vigorously many people are not in agreement to their tactics. Many have expressed their apprehension that music would die if RIAA insists on having its way.
