Should Think Before You Download Music?

When the Beatles were recording their music back in the 1960's how could they ever imagine the concept of download music? Could you imagine John Lennon and Paul McCartney writing music so people could record their work for free off a computer?

In the age of the World Wide Web the works of great musicians are available to all at the click of a mouse. And if you know what you are doing you can get the work for free. The music artists are feeling the pain. You can almost hear George Harrison's guitar gently weeping.

If you are a writer, actor, musician, you know what it is like to produce or perform without being paid. After all that is how many artists start off, working for free. But when the artist gets to a point of making money off his or her work, performing or producing for free should be a choice. Giving away one's work is one thing, having it stolen is another however.

But most people do not consider downloading music from the internet stealing. If you can record music from the radio and movies from television freely then why not off the internet?

The difference is in the new technology. The internet now provides clean recording of music. It also provides the ability to select the music people can hear rather than waiting for a radio station to play the song one wants to record.

Of course the issue is about copyright. The people who share there collection of music do this by sharing their music files. And in most cases they do not own the copyright of the music they make available online. Therefore, this can be a violation of copyright.

You can understand this better in this example. You are allowed to make copies of a compact disc you buy but only you can use the copies as back ups. Or if you want to listen to one in your car and keep one in your home. However you cannot give or sell your copy to someone else. The same is true for files of music you have on your computer. Once you share them with someone else, the artist's copyright has been violated.

Music companies are trying to discourage this practice. They have actually sued people for millions of dollars. And in some cases the music companies have won large law suits against ordinary people who were downloading music. Whether they knew it was wrong or not they thought the music company would not take them to court over the matter. But they were wrong.

The safest way to enjoy and record your favorite music online is to join a legitimate pay per download service. You have to pay for the music you download. Either you pay per song you download or a monthly fee. But at least you are protected from a lawsuit for copyright violation. The company you are paying to download music deals with the copyright issues and thus you are shielded.

Who can blame you if you want to download music off the internet? Your favorite music is a click away. But if you want to capture your future music in a legal and ethical way, then visit sites where you pay a fee to record your favorite tunes. If you try to go the free and questionable way, you might be the next person fighting the music industry in court.

This is just another way of watching your favorite DVD's. Music Videos From The Internet It never seems to fail that the movie you were looking forward to is already rented out, and you must make another choice. You no longer have to waste your time this way, you can now rent, purchase and download DVD's online.
